Happy Birthday, Bob
Today was a sleep-in day. Which of course, we didn't do. We were down to breakfast before 8am. The bus left at 10:15, headed for the ferry across the channel to Scotland.
The ferry was fancier than any we have in Canada. There was an area especially for children, including computer games, movies and other children's activities. The restaurants were comfortable and had a variety of food. We had our usual lunch - scone and coffee/tea. It was a bit of a rush to get back to the coach as we approached shore, but everyone got back on the bus before the scheduled departure.
Once off the ferry, we followed the road towards Glasgow. Our first stop was Culzean Castle. It was probably one of my favourite castles so far this trip. It was built in the mid 1800s and had the architecture of the time period..very ornate and detailed in design. The weapons room was particularly interesting as the weapons were organized in geometric designs. We thoroughly enjoyed this stop, despite the smattering of rain as we walked back to the bus.
The rest of the trip was to Glasgow. The roads are wider than Ireland, and for the most part, we were on a freeway. We noticed that the pitch of the roofs, although still steeper than in Canada, was not as steep as in Ireland. The houses were more along the architecture of old Canada. The countryside was not as rocky as Ireland, although the coastline was more rugged and the highlands more defined.
We arrived at our hotel around 5:30pm and after a rather disappointing meal at 7:30pm, we are now settled in our rooms, enjoying a spot of tea, before settling in for the night.
Tomorrow is an early day.
Hotel: Maldron Hotel
Weather: Overcast and some rain when we were on the bus..sunny periods when we were off. High 14c
