Day 15 (September 29th) -Isle of Skye

Today was another early day - out and on the bus by 8am. This was mostly a touring day, although we did make a couple of stops.  We drove around one part of the Isle of Skye through spectacular, dramatic, and changing scenery.  It was almost impossible to take it all in.

At the north tip of the peninsula, we visited the Museum of Life, a private museum that showed the life of earlier islanders. There were seven thatched roof homes that each showed a different aspect of early island life.  This museum was a passion for the owner and it was amazing to see all the historic collectibles he had gathered over the years.  A fascinating stop.

This stop was also near the gravesite of Flora McDonald.

The roads in this area are VERY narrow, only wide enough for one vehicle.  Every once in awhile, there would be a passing just out that would allow one vehicle to pull over and leave just enough room for the other vehicle to pass.  Combine that with winding roads and it was a harrowing experience.  I'm sure Julian was "thrilled" with the idea of having to drive it.  At one point, an oncoming camper van seemed confused about what the process was, as we, ie. Julian, waiting patiently for her to figure it out.

Coming down the other side of the island, the scenery was just as spectacular. We even managed to see a few highland cows.

We stopped at Portree, the capital of the island, for lunch and a visit around the town.  Bob and I managed to find a local craft fair, and a wood turned apple made from local wood - lignum vitae. We also had a feed of fish and chips in a local restaurant.

We were back at our hotel around 3pm, and spent the afternoon relaxing.
